A wily American President entertains the British Royal Family in this warm-hearted drama based on a true event. The year is 1939. In the months prior to World War II, Britain seeks the support of its greatest ally, America. On the other side of the Atlantic, Margaret Suckley (Laura Linney) is invited to accompany her distant cousin, US President Roosevelt (Bill Murray), to his country estate in Hyde Park, New York. Little does she know that she will become witness to a momentous historical event. Roosevelt has invited King George VI (Samuel West) and Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman) to stay at Hyde Park - the first time a King of England has ever visited the United States. Despite some cultural differences - including hot dogs for dinner! - Roosevelt aims to boost support for Britain during the build-up to one of the darkest moments in its history. Bill Murray's effervescent performance as FDR is backed by a brilliant supporting cast in this charming story of a landmark encounter.
