David Tennant stars in the historic first ever live cinema broadcast from the Royal Shakespeare Company's stage. Although divinely ordained, Richard II (David Tennant) has very mortal weaknesses. His big mistake is to exile his popular cousin Henry Bolingbrook (Nigel Lindsay). When Bolingbrook learns that he has also been robbed of his inheritance, he takes advantage of the King's absence to raise an army and stage an invasion of England. The first of Shakespeare's four great plays about the House of Lancaster is a politically charged exploration of power and Machiavellian plotting. The Royal Shakespeare Company's new production is the very first to be broadcast to cinemas live from the Bard's home town of Stratford-Upon-Avon. Directed by RSC Artistic Director Gregory Doran, it marks former Doctor Who David Tennant's eagerly anticipated return to Shakespeare after his critically acclaimed 'Hamlet'. It also launches a exciting new season of three live Shakespeare broadcasts from the RSC.
