Kristin Scott Thomas shines as an unfaithful wife in this delightful French comedy of manners. Dishevelled teacher Damien Hauer (Jean-Pierre Bacri) lectures businessmen on Asian customs. His partner Iva (Kristin Scott Thomas) is a brittle theatre director who's having an affair with a handsome young actor. Their precocious 12-year-old son Noe (Marin Orcand Tourres) watches as this upmarket couple's neglected relationship slowly collapses. Then Iva asks Damien to solicit the help of his father, a high-ranking judge, to prevent an illegal immigrant friend from being deported. Damien is reluctant to act on behalf of someone he's never met, not least because he no longer gets along with his father. He's also enjoying the flattering attentions of a radiant young waitress named Aurore (Isabelle Carre). Writer/director Pascal Bonitzer's wry satire takes an amused look at modern family life. Kristin Scott Thomas excels in another French-speaking role amid a hugely impressive cast of Gallic veterans.
